The festival of Labh Panchami marks the end of Diwali celebrations. It is observed on the Fifth day of the ‘Shukla Paksha’ in the month of ‘Kartik.’ This day is popularly known as 'Labh Pancham' or ‘Saubhagya Panchami’ or ‘Gyaan Panchami’ or ‘Laakheni Panchami’ and is celebrated with enthusiasm and fervour in Gujarat. Prayers are offered to Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi for well-being and prosperity. Labh Panchami is an auspicious day for initiating a new business venture.

Sharda Pujan is performed by the business community. They open their shops today and also perform puja of their new account ledgers. The businessmen pray to Goddess Lakshmi to seek her blessings. People visit the houses of relatives and friends. There is a custom of exchanging sweets. In some regions, people worship their books on Labh Panchami to enhance their wisdom and knowledge. They also donate food, clothes, money and other essentials to the poor and needy on Labh Panchami.

In Gujarat, Labh Panchami is also the first working day of the New Year. Businessmen open new account ledgers on Labh Panchami by writing ‘Shubh’ on the left side and ‘Labh’ on the right side.
