It is believed that those who worships Goddess Matangi on Matangi Jayanti is blessed with all pleasures of life. He is freed from all kinds of fears of life. Goddess fulfills the desires and helps in achieving the goals of life. Matangi is the ninth form of Dasha Mahavidyas. She is known as the goddess of vocal and music. She possesses a power of the entire universe. Goddess Matangi blesses her devotees with a happy and blissful married life. Worshipping Goddess Matangi brings peace and harmony.

Significance of Matangi Jayanti:

On Matangi Jayanti, Goddess Matangi is worshiped along with small girls and offered food in the form of prasad. Jagaran and Kirtans are performed in various temples. Devotees participate in the puja with dedication and enthusiasm. Matangi Puja is performed to remove the ill effect of the planet Sun. The individual going through the period and sub period of Sun should perform Matagi puja to attain the happiness.

Ma Matangi Puja is beneficial for curbing the malefic period of the sun or its Maha-Dasha or Antar-Dasha. Those going through the main and sub period of the Sun or having malefic Sun must conduct vamtantra Dusmahavidya tantrik Ma Matangi Puja. The puja is done to mitigate evil effects of Surya dosha.

Those who are not able to receive the love of his mother or mother is going through sufferings must recite Matangi Mantra. It is also beneficial to reduce the suffering from any natural calamity.

Goddess Matangi is a form of Lord Shiva. She wears a white crescent Moon on her forehead. Her arms are spread in the four directions. Hence, she is known as Vagdevi. She is a primal form of Goddess Saraswati. A person who worships her with Bael leaves possesses a sense of attraction. Goddess Matangi is also known as Ucchishta-Chandalini or Ucchishta-Matangini. In South India, she is worshiped as Ucchistha Matangi, Raj Matangi, Sumukhi, Vaishya Matangi, and Karan Matangi. According to Brahmayala, Saint Matang performed a penance and was blessed with Goddess Matangi in the form of a daughter. It is also said that when Sage Matang was performing penance in the forest, Goddess Matangi appeared as Raj Matangi from the radiance of Trupurasura to suppress destructive powers.

Rituals/ Celebrations:

An idol of Goddess Matangi is placed on the altar. Devotees lit the diya, and incense sticks. The homemade Prasad is offered to the goddess along with garlands, Coconut, and flowers. The mantras are recited, and the aarti is performed. Prasad is distributed among family members and friends. Goddess provides the strength to her devotees to fight from the evils and to live the life full of happiness and prosperity. Goddess Matangi helps her devotees to understand and apply the knowledge at the right place to gain maximum benefits.
