About Kamada Ekadashi Vrat:

Kamada Ekadasi is the first Ekadashi in a Hindu year, and it is considered to be the most auspicious among all the Ekadashi. Also known as Kamada Ekadashi, it falls in the month of Chaitra during the waxing phase of the moon. The Ekadashi that falls on the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra is called the Kamada Ekadashi. It is believed to be the first Ekadasi of the Hindu New Year. Kamada means - 'The one that grants all wishes.' Lord Krishna is worshiped on this Ekadashi.

The devotees believe that observing a fast on this day will assist in getting rid of all sins and guilt. It also helps in regaining and increasing virtue. Apart from the removal of the sins, observing this Ekadashi vrat is also believed to bless a couple with a child. It is believed that if someone observes the Kamada Ekadashi Vrat, the person gets rid of all his guilt and sins. The impact of the Kamada Ekadashi Vrat could be seen very soon. The story of Kamada Ekadashi dates back to a couple named Lalit and Lalitha. Lalit was a Gandharva and his wife Lalitha was an apsara. The couple used to perform in the court of King Pundarika in Ratnapura. Once, Lalit was delivering a solo performance, but he loved his wife so much that he just could just not tolerate his wife’s absence. This affected his performance. Lalit made numerous mistakes in his performance. The king got angry, and he cursed Lalit for being overwhelmed by his wife’s love. Lalit was turned into an ugly demon.

The king thought that Lalitha would dump his ugly husband. Instead, Lalitha came to the king and informed that she would never forsake her husband. The couple set out to find a solution so that Lalit can get rid of this curse. One day, they passed by an ashram of Sage Shringi. He asked the couple to observe the Kamada Ekadashi vrat. The couple observed the fast and Lalit was relieved from the curse. He returned to his normal appearance. Hindu devotees observes Kamada Ekadashi fast on the pretext of getting their desires and wished fulfilled.

Celebrations/ Rituals:

The devotees observing the Kamada Ekadashi Vrat, should practice purity, a day before the Kamada Ekadashi. Along with this, the devotees who want to observe the Kamada Ekadasi fast should not consume Moong Dal, Wheat, Barley, etc. The duration of the fast is 24 hours, which starts from the day of Dashami

As the part of rituals of Kamada Ekadasi, devotees should wake up early in the morning and take a bath with soil. It should be taken from some pure place.
