About the Temple:Dada Darbar temple is situated at Khandwa town in Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh. The temple is named after Dadaji Dhuniwale, a local deity who lived in Khandwa town and healed people's miseries in an uncommon way. He is considered to be of Aghori section. The holy tombstones or samadhis of the great men Swami Keshwanandaji Maharaj and Swami Hariharanandji Maharaj who are known as “Dadaji Dhuniwale” or 'Bade Dadaji" and “Chote Dadaji” respectively rests here.

Temple History and Temple Legend:In the year 1930, the tombstones were erected in the memory of the Avadhoot sages. Bade Dadaji wandered from place to place and he used to meditate in front of the holy fire which is called Dhuni. Hence, he was also called Dada Dhuniwale and this holy site is known as Dada Dhuniwala Darbar.

In the 18th century, Shri Gauri Shankarji Maharaj along a group of devotees used to do circumambulation or pradakshina of the Narmada river. Shri Gauri Shankarji Maharaj did penance and prayed to Mother Narmada as he wanted to have darshan of Lord Shiva. When he completed twelve circumambulation, Goddess Narmada appeared in front of him and told him that in the group of devotees, there is a young sanyasi named Dadaji Maharaj, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Shri Gauri Shankarji Maharaj was very happy as his lifelong desire was about to come true. Gauri Shankarji went to meet Dadaji Maharaj. He was a young child who was 7-8 years old. He actually saw Lord Shiva in that young boy. When he could not believe his eyes, Lord Shiva asked him to touch the boy and believe it. Since then, Dadaji Maharaj is seen and worshiped as the incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Shri Keshavanandji Maharaj, also known as Shri Dadaji Dhuniwale is one of the renowned saints. No information is available about where and when was Dadaji born as he was first seen as a child of 7-8 years by Maharaj Shri Gauri Shankarji, near the banks of Narmada river. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Dadaji visited many places in India, especially central part of India. Dadaji Maharaj always used to carry a ‘danda’ or stick with him. He always used to sit and meditate in front of a ‘Dhuni’. The “Dhuni” is a sacred fire which is lit by Hindu sages. Lakhs of devotees in India and all over the world actually worships him as an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Festivals and Celebrations:A huge fair in the temple premises on the day of the Guru Purnima. Thousands of devotees visit this sacred place on this day.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Khandwa which is 2 km away from the temple.

By Road: The place is well connected by roads with rest of the major cities of Madhya Pradesh. The temple can be reached by city buses and cabs.

By Air: The nearest airports are located at Bhopal and Indore.
