Rudranath temple is one of the well-known pilgrimages of “Panch Kedar”.  It is eminently devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is in Chamoli district Uttarakhand which is a largely known for its pilgrimage spots in India. The place has beautiful vicinity which attracts the tourists and devotees to Uttarakhand.

Rudranath temple also has idols and statues of Kunti, Pandavas and Draupadi as it is said that Pandavas had come in search of Lord Shiva to seek forgiveness and Lord Shiva hid himself underground by turning himself into a bull. The head showed up at Rudranath making it a prominent place of worship.

All the devotees who visit the temple can take bath at “Narad Kund” near the temple before visiting the temple.

Legend Says it All!

            In Rudranath, Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of “Nilkanta Mahadev”. Shiva’s raged face which is known as “Rudra Avatar” by the Hindus is also worshipped here. The legends said that, Lord Shiva in his Rudra Avatar dived into the earth appearing in Rudranath. But the angry face of the Shiva is a temporary mask, one can see the pleasing beauty of Lord Shiva when the pundits take them off from the face while giving it the holy bath. This pleasing face is said to enlighten the devotees and make them feel at peace. But, it is not easy to meet the Lord Shiva in its pleasing charm, the tourists have to rise early and visit the temple to catch the glimpse. If you are lucky then you will get to see the Lord in his pleasing form and it is indeed a blessing for the lifetime.

Summer and Spring are the best times to visit!

            The best time to visit Rudranath temple is during the dry summer and pleasant spring. It is because the weather is good and the sky is clear, unlike the rainy season which would make your visit bad and gloomy. During winter, the place is difficult to be reached because of the thick fog and mist that covers the area. Thus, the summer and spring is the ideal time to enjoy the scenic beauty and engage in the adventurous hiking and trekking in this place.

How to reach:

By Airways: One has to reach Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is the most nearby airport for Uttarakhand. Yet, there is 258 Kilometers to cover via road transport. There is a possible option of trekking to reach this place.

By Railways: The only railway station that is nearest to this place is Rishikesh railways station which is again in the whooping 240 kilometers to Rudranath.  You can hire road transport till the foot of the temple and remaining 20 Kilometers has to be by foot.

By Roadways: Taxis, Buses and local cabs are available in plenty to reach the place and thus roadways are opted to reach the place easily.

Rudranath temple is a famous trekking spot and thousands of tourists visit every year making it an eminent place of visit. It is said that it is a journey of a lifetime that nourishes one’s body, mind and soul and one can seek inner peace.
