About the TempleTannot Mata temple is nestled in the Tanot village, on the Indis-Pakistan border of the Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan. As per the ancient Charan literature, Tannot Mata is a clone of Goddess Hinglaj Mata. The road to Tannot Temple is surrounded by sand dunes and sand mountains. Tannot Mata is also known as the folk deity of Charan tribe. Tannot Mata temple is nearly 1,200-year-old. In 1965, during an Indo-Pak war, the temple remained intact despite heavy bombarding. A museum in temple premises has the collection of 450 unexploded bombs. The temple campus also houses a Vijay Stambh or Victory Pillar. Tannot Mata is popularly known as Aavad Mata who was the incarnation of Goddess Hinglaj.

Due to the miracles of Mata at the time of 1965-71 Indo-Pak war (Still live bombs, grenades are present in temple premises), the goddess is also known as Jawanon ki Devi. Hundreds of devotees come on foot to the temple.

The legend has it that many years ago,a charan named Mamadiya visited Hinglaj Shaktipeeth seven-time as he was childless. Later, Goddess Hinglaj appeared in his dream and asked about his wish. Mamadiya requested Goddess to take birth as his daughter. By the grace of Goddess Hinglaj, Mamadiya blessed with 7 daughters and a son. One of his daughters named Aavad was born in Vikram Samvant 808. This girl started performing miracles since her childhood. In fact, his all daughters had divine powers. They protected the Maad region from the Hoon invaders.

By the blessings of Aavad mata, Bhati Rajputs ruled the Maad region. King Tanu Rao bhati gifted a golden throne to Goddess.

By Road: Buses and taxies are available from Jaisalmer town which is 150 km away from the temple.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Jaisalmer.
