Significance of Sai Puja

Overview:Shirdi Sai Baba is one of the most popular, religious and spiritual mentor or sage who has followers and disciples of all faiths. Every year thousands of people visit Shirdi Dham, the abode of Sai each year to seek his blessings. Sai Baba is worshipped as a mentor or divine sage, whose wisdom showed everyone how to live a moral and ideal life. Sai Baba also taught people about the importance of devotion towards the God. Worship of Saibaba is very much beneficial for his devotees. Sai Baba stayed in Shirdi for three years and then disappeared for a year and returned to Shirdi permanently in 1858.

Sai Baba Puja Ritual:

Sai Puja is a very simple ritual. An idol or picture of Sai Baba is placed along with lamps, water, and wicks. Two lamps are lit, one for faith and another for patience. Few lines are recited from SatCharitra and Sai Baba’s name is chanted. Lit the two lamps either in the morning or evening or both the time. The significance of the lamp is to burn out the devotee’s past sins. Read the stories about the life of Sai Baba from SatCharitra. At least a chapter should be read every day. Chant 108 names of Sai Baba. This enhances the devotion and faith in Sai Baba. Chant ‘Sai’ naam for 10 to 20 minutes along with the Sai mantra

Water, fruits, flowers, milk or food are offered to Sai baba during the puja. After the concluding the puja, the devotee should convey their problems sincerely to Sai Baba. It is believed that he offers solutions to his devotee. The two lamps signify Shraddha (faith) and Saburi (patience). Concentrate on the lamps and chat Sai naam.

Kakad Aarti:Kakad aarti is performed at 5 a.m. in the morning after lighting the lamps. The Prasad made of butter and sugar is offered to Sai baba. Five wicks are used for aarti. After the concluding the aarti, the devotees recite SatCharitra.

Abhishekam:Abhishekam is conducted around 8 a.m. for the idol of Sai Baba. A mixture of Yellow rice and warm water is offered 9 times at the feet of Sai Baba. During abhishekam, the devotee should chant Vishnusahastranamam Stotra, Rudram or Purusha Suktam. During the Abhishekam, milk is offered first followed by tender coconut, orange or lime juice, yoghurt, rosewater and Ganga-Jal. After Abhishekam, the idol of Sai Baba is decorated with garland and clothes. Apply vermilion and sandalwood paste to the idol. A coconut is broken and kept on the either sides of the statue.

Madhyana Aarti:Madhyana Aarti is performed around 1p.m. Prasad of brinjal, rice, chapatti, poori and two vegetables are offered to Sai baba. After the noon Aarti chapters 50 and 51 should be read out. The devotees can take a turn to read the Sai SatCharitra.

Dhoop Aarti:After reading all the chapters, the Shirdi Sai Ashotharam is chanted with flowers. Dhoop aarti is performed and Chickpea is offered as Prasad.
